History

The Association of Access to Information and Privacy Professionals (AAPI) was founded in 1991 in response to the desire expressed by access to information and privacy professionals to build a community of practitioners and share their knowledge, skills, and experience in these areas within Quebec’s public administration. This nonprofit organization later chose to highlight the importance of its members in its mission by renaming itself the Association of Access to Information and Privacy Professionals. The acronym AAPI continues to be used.

For over 30 years, AAPI has supported its members in adapting their practices to the evolution of legislation. In particular, in 2020, AAPI quickly recognized the significance of the proposed amendments in Bill 64 (An Act to modernize legislative provisions as regards the protection of personal information) for businesses of all sizes and public bodies across Quebec. AAPI provides services and tools to help its members meet the challenges of implementing these changes. The Association is more relevant than ever and aligned with its members' needs in an era where information holds strategic value.
